It’s been almost a year since the devastating tornado of December 2021 ripped through the Presbytery of Western Kentucky. First Presbyterian Church in Mayfield was destroyed as well as many buildings, homes, and lives of families in the presbytery. Over the past year many of our churches have responded in different ways to the disaster. With assistance from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), two churches – First Pres Madisonville and First Pres Calvert City have established host site accommodations for visiting mission teams to do recovery work in the region. These activities have the church and presbytery in the spirit of the Matthew 25 initiative. FPC Mayfield has committed to rebuilding their church in its downtown location and has begun meetings with architects and contractors to make it happen.
