New Worshiping Community

Upon the 2017 closing of Nicholasville Presbyterian Church (Nicholasville, Kentucky), the Presbytery of Transylvania committed to continuing the nearly 200-year ministry of that congregation by establishing a New Worshiping Community in Nicholasville. Opening earlier this year, Urban Village is that legacy ministry. Located in the old post office in downtown Nicholasville, the mission of Urban Village is to be a place where all people are welcome and where each person can grow in mind, body, and spirit. To this end, Urban Village has an indoor play area for children and youth; we offer jiu-jitsu classes for children, youth, and adults; and we have recently begun a faith-based youth group for fifth through eighth graders. We recently received a technology grant from the Presbyterian Foundation, 1001 New Worshiping Communities, and the Lilly Endowment to upgrade our internet and purchase several Chromebooks to enable us to be a place for NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) work to be completed during the school year. On the horizon in the new year is the beginning of an after school program and an outreach ministry to parents and toddlers/preschoolers. The Presbytery of Transylvania and several of its congregations support Urban Village financially and through volunteering. The pastor of Wilmore Presbyterian Church (Wilmore, Kentucky) is serving as the director of this ministry.
