Camp Noah: A Mission of Healing and Hope

In July 2023, a group of 13 volunteers from the WKY Presbytery embarked on a mission trip to Buckhorn, Kentucky, to participate in Camp Noah. This week-long camp was designed to provide healing and support to children impacted by the devastating floods of 2022.

With generous donations and volunteer efforts from the WKY Presbytery, Camp Noah was able to serve 12 campers, ages 6-11. The curriculum, developed by Lutheran Social Services, focused on helping children process their trauma, build resilience, and find hope.

Highlights of the camp included:

  • Community and Connection: The camp fostered a strong sense of community among the campers and volunteers, creating lasting bonds.
  • Creative Expression: Through art, music, and storytelling, the children were able to express their emotions and find healing.
  • Inspiring Stories: Stories like “The Invisible String” helped children understand the enduring power of love and connection.
  • Volunteer Spirit: The dedicated team of volunteers, including families and young adults, provided invaluable support and mentorship.

The impact of Camp Noah on the children was profound. They gained confidence, found their voices, and discovered their own strengths. The camp also served as a source of inspiration for the volunteers, who witnessed firsthand the power of compassion and community.

As a result of this successful mission, the WKY Presbytery is committed to continuing to support Camp Noah and other similar initiatives, providing hope and healing to those in need.
